Myths Concerning Hypnosis - Yes, It Can Help You
Hypnosis has become a popular alternative treatment for many issues such as quitting smoking, weight loss, anxiety, phobias, panic attacks and depression. Many people have misconceptions about hypnosis because of the way it has been portrayed on television.
Hypnosis is an accepted medical treatment that has been used for thousands of years. It dates back to ancient Egypt. The American Medical Association has approved hypnosis for use in all areas of medicine. Hypnosis is a very safe therapeutic tool which has no side effects.
Hypnosis is a natural state that we all enter at various times. In a hypnotic state, your attention focuses on just one area, while closing out other information. It is very similar to day dreaming and to the state we are in before we fall asleep at night. We are relaxed, but still aware of everything around us. In this state, we can give ourselves suggestions which are sent to our subconscious mind.
Hypnosis is a state of consciousness in which you are relaxed and have concentrated attention. The brain activity during hypnosis is the same as during meditation. With practice you can learn to bring yourself into this state. It has been proven that there are numerous health benefits to be gained from being in this state. When you are in hypnosis, you are aware your surroundings, but in a detached way and are more receptive to positive suggestions. Your mind concentrates on the suggestions and doesn’t pay attention to other things.
People expect to feel something special or really different when in hypnosis, even though it is just a normal state of mind. You cannot be hypnotized against your will or without consent. You go into a hypnotic state by cooperating with the suggestions to concentrate and relax. Basically, all hypnosis is self hypnosis. You can only go into hypnosis willingly and with full awareness. A hypnotherapist is an instructor who guides you. When in hypnosis, you will not accept any suggestions that are against your will, religion, values, or principles.
Hypnosis is very effective in helping your subconscious mind to change harmful issues. Put aside all of the myths about hypnosis and let it help you to live a better life. Remember, you are always in control and can not be made to do anything that you don’t want to do. It is just another tool, just like meditation, that can improve your quality of life.
